Campus Involvement
This past semester was my first as a Student Leadership Consultant and there was so much to learn! I learned so much about accountability, flexibility, teamwork, and trust. There's a lot of fast-moving work in the office, and it was great to be able to do work on coordination of the student organizations and coordination of some of the wonderful programs we have on campus, and in the Leadership Scholar Program. Working in the Office of Student Engagement really improved my ethic, my time management, and my personal level of responsibility.

Community Service
This semester I attended a couple of Service Saturday events, one at the Ithaca ReUse Center. I love thrifting because it really helps make sure that clothes go through their entire worth before they're discarded. I had a really great time helping out at the ReUse Center because it helped me be a part of keeping that process running. Sustainability can take a lot of work and coordination, and I got a really good look at how much coordination goes into the ReUse Center and making sure that everything is used to its full potential. It was a really great event!

Women in Leader Series: What are you Calling Toxic? Creating and Maintaining Friendships was hosted by Jaimie Warburton and it was one of the best SLIs I've ever attended here on campus. We had such an eye-opening discussion on friendship and toxicity and how people interact with each other, and how people perceive each other. I was so impressed by how collaborative this event was, how much everyone participated in this, and how J's presentation really delved into the importance of healthy friendship.
Good Girls Don't Tell was a documentary screening and a discussion about survivors of sexual assault. This one was really interesting because it was a small group and the discussion we had about survivors and the socialization of women in society was really powerful. I thought this SLI was a really conscientious and thoughtful way to approach the necessary discussion of sexual assault, and the documentary itself was incredibly powerful. Finally I went to Food Insecurity: How to Help (I actually attended this one twice by hosting it) and this is one of my favorite SLIs as well! The presentation explains the food pantry we have on campus, why it's necessary, and how to use the resources it provides students. I think a lot of students on campus don't know about all the wonderful work the food pantry does to combat food insecurity in a safe and mindful method, and I really appreciate getting to learn about it and getting more familiar with that institution on campus. |
